| What
is Engaged Encounter?
The
Engaged Encounter is a weekend where an atmosphere is created
in which each couple can concentrate exclusively on one another.
It is free of the tensions and interruptions of the world. It
is a very quiet weekend specifically designed to give the couples
planning marriage an opportunity to "get away" and
dialogue honesty and intensively with each other about their
prospective lives together. They discuss their strengths and
weaknesses; their desires, ambitions, goals, attitudes about
money, sex, children, family, as well as their role in Church
and society. An Engaged Encounter weekend fulfills the
instructional requirements of the diocese for marriage preparation.
Who
should attend?
The weekend
is designed for all engaged couples planning marriage who desire
a richer fuller life together. Marriage preparation is worth
the time and effort. Engaged Encounter is designed to deepen
and enrich your relationship with each other.
Although the
origin of Engaged Encounter is the Catholic Church, the weekend
is open to all couples of any faith searching
for enrichment in the quality of their life together.
Weekend
Format
Through a series
of talks presented by a trained team of married couples, the
engaged couple is stimulated to dialogue privately with each
other on all aspects of married life, always from the view point
of their own relationship. It is a private experience in a quiet
and informal setting.
Personal reflection
and dialogue between fiancé and fiancée are the
main thrust of the weekend. The communal meals, a Saturday night
group "Rap," and Sunday "closing Mass,"
make the weekend memorable for all who attend.
